Going Bald? Some Tips on Boosting What Hair You Have Left!

Everyone has an attachment to their hair and losing it can be one of the most difficult uncontrollable situations to come to grips with. In today’s hectic lifestyle and work-related stress, hair loss is becoming noticeable early on. Instead of instantly resorting to over-the-counter solutions or chemical treatments, trying some holistic home remedies for hair growth can help as a first step. As always, hair loss can indicate a more serious health condition so make sure to consult your doctor with any symptoms or before starting any new regimen.

Up Your Protein Intake—Protein is essential for hair growth, so consuming enough is essential to having a full head of hair. Complete protein like meat and fish are the most beneficial for hair growth and many meats also contain iron, which is another essential building block to having healthy hair.

Take Your Vitamins—making sure you get your daily recommended intake of vitamins is essential. Vitamin C and biotin play especially important roles for producing collagen which is necessary for healthy hair and skin. Foods like citrus, broccoli and spinach all contain Vitamin C, while foods like eggs, nuts, berries and fish all have a healthy dose of biotin.

Balance Your Hormones—Sometimes imbalanced hormones can mean a more serious condition. But other times, stress, a lot of time sitting in front of a TV or computer can also contribute to imbalanced hormones. Often times the hormones that go out of balance first are Cortisol, Estrogen and hormones associated with the Thyroid gland. Try to naturally start coping with any stress in your life by exercising, doing yoga, meditation or if possible eliminating it. This may help you with your hair loss.

Scalp Health—A lot of the shampoos and conditioners we use have chemicals that aren’t good for the health of your scalp. A good place to start looking if you are having problems with hair loss is what ingredients your shampoo or conditioner contains. Over washing can also contribute to hair loss as well, so if you wash your hair more than 1x per day you might want to dial back. Hair really has to be washed (with shampoo) 3x per week—so in between your shampoo washings if you have to take a shower use water.
