The best way to increase energy at the gym is getting at least eight hours of sleep per night and having a stress-free day, but let’s be honest that never happens. So if you are like the rest of us you are looking for other ways to boost your energy at the gym without the pending sugar crash that comes from energy drinks, here are some of the best foods to help fuel that extra mile.



Eggs: Eggs are nature’s superfood, high in vitamins (both B and D) and packed with protein, they will keep you going and won’t pack on the pounds. They are one of nature’s best sources of protein, so eating them post-workout isn’t a bad idea either.





Coffee: Well, let’s put it this way, a little caffeine can certainly go a very long way. Numerous studies have demonstrated the performance enhancing benefits of coffee. One cup can add a much needed boost to your workout, adding a little skim milk also gives you a shot of vitamin D and calcium. So don’t overdo it, more coffee just leads to a bad crash, one cup (regular) is all you need to reap the benefits of this super workout food.

Yogurt: Yogurt not only can give you a boost before you start working out but could potentially help you fight off infections while you are working out as well. Besides providing some immunity boosting benefits and energy to fuel your workout, it can also help calm a queasy stomach before a race or competition.




Fruit: While fruit should be a daily part of your diet anyway, eating it right before a work out can really help boost your energy. Besides delivering that great boost of fructose (natural sugar) to get your body moving it also helps to dilate your blood vessels so that it can carry oxygen to the cells and remove waste products.
